Safety first? I understand that the massive numbers of vehicles trying to get to the Jamboree were a problem because we also arrived around 9:30 and sat in line, then were told by an officer to go to the high school, returned to the base and were turned away. Parking these vehicles was probably a better option than sending motorists here and there with seemingly no plan of action. Vehicles were doing U-turns in emergency turnouts, vehicles overheating from sitting in line for hours, etc. are also safety concerns. My sons and husband attended the Jamborees at Fort AP Hill in 1993, 1997 and 2001 and my husband and I visited in 2005. As upset as we were at not being allowed into the Jamboree, our hearts went out to all the scouts and scouters who were sitting in cars, trucks, and buses with license plates from as far away as Alaska. We know for a fact that parking for Jamboree is a daunting task but has been handled in the past. If the numbers are an issue, perhaps "tickets" should be issued in advance to help control the numbers. We did watch the festivities on the internet but the video feed kept freezing up and it was far from the wonderful experience of being there.

LET ME TELL HOW DISAPPOINTED AT NOT BEING ALLOWED IN TO THIS JAMBOREE TODAY... I HAVE DRIVEN FROM OUT OF STATE AND MANY HOURS TO ATTEND THE JAMBOREE WITH MY SON. WE ARRIVED AT 9:35 AM TO BE TURNED AWAY AT THE GATE. ( IT OPENED AT 9 AM ) THE POLICE SAID TO GO TO THE CAROLINE HIGH SCHOOL AND WAIT FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. WE HAD TO DRIVE 8 MILES DOWN 301 JUST TO TURN AROUND TO ANOTHER 14 MILES TO THE HIGH SCHOOL AND WAITED LIKE MANY OTHER SCOUTS THAT DROVE THOUSANDS OF MILE TO GET HERE AND BE TURNED AWAY. THEN A HOUR LATER A VA POLICE OFFICED GOT ON HIS BULL HORN AND MADE ANNOUCEMENT THAT THE GATE WAS OPEN AND TO GET BACK IN CARS AND HEAD BACK. SO WE DID ....... WE WAITED AGAIN IN THE GATE TO BE TURNED DOWN AGAIN WITH THE POLICE SAYING, ITS CLOSED AND PLEASE LEAVE THE AREA...... THIS IS NOT THE BOY SCOUTS THAT I REMEMBER IN THE 1981-1985 JAMBOREES. AND FOR THEM TO SAY THERE WAS NO PARKING IS A ABSOLUTE JOKE .... I BEEN IN 2 OTHER JAMBOREES AND THEY FOUND PARKING DURING THESE JAMBOREES. .... WHERE ARE THE BOY SCOUTS HEADS?????

A VERY SAD DAY FOR ALL ~!
