Virginia State Police Continue the Search for Missing Lunenburg Girl
If still alive, Sarah L. Murray of Lunenburg County will be celebrating her 28th birthday on Thursday, July 29. 2010. Despite having disappeared more than 13 years ago, the Virginia State Police, Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office and her family have not given up hope on finding her and are asking for the public’s help.
Murray was reported missing on the morning of Feb. 18, 1997. She was 14 years old at the time and was living with a relative in Kenbridge. She has not been seen or heard from since then.
Murray grew up in Chesterfield County and went to live in Lunenburg County in November 1995. Tragically, within days of her move to Kenbridge, Murray’s mother was killed in a traffic crash while en-route to visit the young girl.
Murray was known to frequent the Metro-Richmond area. She is fluent in Spanish and may be associated with the Hispanic community. Murray has been known to use the nickname Susana.
“Over the years we have exhausted all leads in this case,” said State Police Senior Special Agent Mike Bryant, who is currently assigned to the case. “We have even used various social media sites to search for Sarah and any friends she may have had over the years. Unfortunately, she vanished without a trace in 1997 and her family continues to suffer through not knowing if Sarah is even alive to celebrate her birthday this week.”
At the time of her disappearance, Murray was 5 feet 7 inches tall, 139 pounds with sandy-colored hair. She is a white female with hazel eyes and had an extra tooth growing out of the roof of her mouth. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was able to produce an age-progressed photo of her in 2005 as to what she may have looked like at age 23.
