Vienna Home on Carrhill Road Destroyed by Fire

fire-fighters-1Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 12:05 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2010, in the Vienna area of Fairfax County. The single family home is located at 2005 Carrhill Road.

Firefighters encountered large amounts of smoke coming from all sides, and fire visible from the rear of the three-story home upon arrival. Firefighters encountered heavy fire on the first floor as they entered the front door, with fire quickly spreading to the second floor and attic area. Firefighters attacked the fire from the inside until fire conditions severely deteriorated and the second floor collapsed. Firefighters continued to fight the fire from the exterior of the home. It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. No one was home when the fire broke out. Two adults and three children have been displaced. One dog perished in the fire. There were no other injuries. Red Cross support was not needed. A home alarm monitoring system activated and alerted 911.

The home is a total loss.

According to fire investigators, the fire is under investigation
