Understanding the nature of auto repair

Auto repair falls into three basic categories: maintenance, urgent repairs, and preventative or performance enhancing repairs. Maintenance, while very important, can be deferred for a while if the dollars are tight, and there’s plenty of competition for this work, keeping the prices in line. Urgent repairs are fairly easy to categorize an engine that fails to start, a transmission that won’t shift, a safety concern such as a brake pull or inoperative tail lights these usually have a clear solution and must be fixed right away.
