Underage Alchol Purchasing Stings in Fairfax

On Thursday, December 10, officers from the
Sully District Station Neighborhood Patrol Unit, conducted stings at
several locations in the Sully and Chantilly areas of Fairfax County.
The sting was part of the Safe December youth alcohol operation which
was conducted using a county police cadet dressed in plain clothing to
purchase alcohol. The cadet entered stores and attempted to purchase
alcohol. If asked whether he was 21 years old, the cadet was to respond
with his true age and/or date of birth. If asked for identification, he
was to tell the clerk that he had no identification with him. If the
sale of alcohol took place, the plain-clothed officer would take
possession of the alcohol from the cadet and make the appropriate
charge(s), along with the assistance of the uniformed officer assigned
to the team.

As a result of the sting operation, 23 locations were entered, with
three arrests made for the illegal sale of alcohol to a minor. Those
offenses occurred at Citi Mart, located at 14631 Lee Highway, Prime
Mart, located at 4300 Willard Road, and CVS, located at 13031 Lee
Jackson Memorial Highway.

The stings were conducted using one team consisting of one plain-clothed
officer, one uniformed officer, and one cadet.
