Tree Seedlings Now Available From The Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District
The Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation district will have free trees seedlings available for stream banks planting just in time for the county’s celebration of Arbor Day and Earth Day.
According to Jay Frankenfield, conservation technician at LSWCD, seedlings are available in the following species: white oak, hazelnut, pin oak, persimmon and black walnut.
The seedlings come in bunches of 50, and cannot be divided. They are intended to be planted along streams, wetlands and ponds to improve the riparian buffer, control erosion, reduce flooding and improve the water quality for fish and wildlife habitat. Additionally, riparian buffers act as filters for nutrients and chemicals contained in fertilizers before they reach the water.
