Town of Leesburg Special Election Set For April 17, 2012

The Town of Leesburg will hold a special election on April 17, 2012, to fill the remainder of a Council Member term expiring on December 31, 2014. This Council Member term was vacated by Council Member Ken Reid’s resignation following his election to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.

In order to be eligible to run for the vacant Council seat, a candidate must be qualified to vote in Leesburg Town Council elections and must have been a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia for at least one year immediately preceding the election.

Interested citizens are required to file certain documents, including a Certificate of Candidate Qualification, a Declaration of Candidacy, and a petition of registered voters with a minimum of 125 signatures, with the Loudoun County General Registrar in order to be placed on the ballot. These forms are available for download from the Virginia State Board of Elections website at www.sbe.virginia.gov/cms/Cidate_Information/Index.html. The deadline for submission is February 17, 2012 (60 days prior to the election date). Candidates may begin circulating petitions of registered voters on January 1, 2012.

Additional information for candidates is available from the Loudoun County General Registrar, on their website at www.loudoun.gov/vote, at their office at 750 Miller Drive SE, Suite C, Leesburg, Virginia 20175, in the Leesburg Airpark business park, or by calling 703-777-0380.
