Top heavy Clarke County school budget vote postponed
It seems that the Clarke County school system thinks the best way to educate our children is with administrators. The budget submitted included no cuts in administrative staff but the elimination of 10 teachers. Clearly the foxes are running the hen house. Everyone running a real business knows that middle management gets cut first. Apparently the school board intends to weather the economic storm by having a bloated administrative staff. I am glad to see the school board found this budget Mr Murphy submitted unacceptable. His vision seems a little near-sighted.
Berryville — Clashing views on everything from the survival of middle-school sports to the elimination of 10 teaching positions in the Clarke County Public Schools have brought budget talks to a halt.
An attempt to approve the school system’s budget for the 2010 fiscal year — which had been scheduled to occur Monday night — died during the School Board’s regular meeting when it became clear the majority of the board was uncomfortable with parts of the proposed plan.
Actions suggested by Schools Superintendent Michael F. Murphy to close a $1.35 million shortfall in the budget may not go far enough to protect students from serious educational damage, several of the board members said.
They postponed the final vote, but will discuss the budget further in a meeting Thursday.

How can an administration stand up and present a budget like this? They are thumbing their nose at the entire county. Murphy should be ashamed of himself. How about lopping out some waste from his $174,000.00 a year compensation package. There’s an idea…
