Tattoos & Facial Imaging May Help ID 2008 Homicide Victim

RICHMOND – The man was between 35 and 50 years old. He had long, brown hair and weighed approximately 180 pounds at a height of five feet seven inches. He was wearing Levi Straus blue jeans with a black, long-sleeve sweatshirt and a t-shirt with a picture of Mickey Mouse hang gliding. He had seven distinctive tattoos, including the phrase, “I love you Kelsey always.” And, yet, no one has come forward to claim or report the man missing since his body was spotted by two fisherman in Prince Edward County’s Sandy River Reservoir April 5, 2008.

Since the recovery of the body, state and local investigators have been working with the FBI to generate facial reconstructions with the hope that someone in the public will recognize him.

“By creating these different facial images, we hope they will spark someone’s memory and help us identify this individual,” said Virginia State Police Special Agent R. Clay Overholt, Appomattox Field Office. “He also had a series of tattoos that may mean something in particular or aid in someone recognizing the man. There has to be a family member out there wondering whatever happened to their loved one. If this individual fits the description, then please let us know.”

The man’s seven tattoos included a leaf/feather on his neck. The three tattoos on the man’s right arm included Yosemite Sam, a confederate flag with a skull and helmet, and an eagle entwined with the letter A. On the left arm, there are three additional tattoos of a bulldog, an eagle, and a red heart with two arrows and the words “I love you Kelsey always.”

The body was found in the Sandy River Reservoir near Route 307 and Route 460, just west of the 605 bridge, in Prince Edward County. Investigators believe he was the victim of foul play.

The Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police are investigating the case. If anyone believes they may recognize the person in any of the images, they are urged to contact the Prince Edward County’s Crime Solvers at (434) 392-3400 or the Prince Edward Sheriff’s Office at (434) 392-8101 or online at rhurak@pecso.com The public may also contact Special Agent Clay Overholt with the Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3443 or clay.overholt@vsp.virginia.gov.
