Surber indicted by grand jury

A Berkeley County grand jury indicted 37-year-old Donald B. Surber Jr. Tuesday in the murder of his 35-year-old ex-girlfriend, Katherine Nicole Sharp, who was killed after Surber took her hostage at her home in June, leading to a 26-hour standoff with police.

Surber, of Winchester, Va., was officially indicted on one count of first-degree murder, kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, felony destruction of property, domestic assault, burglary, attempted escape, attempt to disarm an officer and attempt to possess a weapon by an inmate of a jail.
