Richmond Man Convicted of Four Armed Robberies of Family Dollar Stores
Eric Thompson, a/k/a Derick Cannon, age 40, of Richmond, Virginia, was convicted today by a federal jury for his role in committing four armed robberies of commercial businesses located in the Richmond, Virginia area. Thompson was convicted of four counts of Robbery Affecting Commerce, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1951(a); four counts of Using, Carrying, and Possessing a Firearm in Furtherance of a Crime of Violence; in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1); and Possessing a Firearm After Having Been Convicted of a Felony Offense. At sentencing which is currently scheduled for October 1, 2010, Thompson faces up to 80 years’ imprisonment on the robbery charges, followed by a mandatory minimum consecutive sentence of 82 years’ imprisonment for using, carrying, and possessing a firearm in connection with those crimes. He faces up to 10 years imprisonment on the possession of a firearm by a felon charge.
