Redskins and Target Make Holidays Bright for LCPS Students
For the seventh year, former Washington Redskins defensive end Renaldo Wynn, his family and the Renaldo Wynn Foundation made holidays bright for 33 deserving Loudoun County Public School (LCPS) students on Tuesday, November 22nd, at the Sterling West Target store.
More than 20 Washington Redskins and festively dressed Target shopping elves granted holiday wishes for LCPS students. A holiday luncheon was provided by Clyde’s of Willow Creek Farm in Ashburn.
The Renaldo Wynn Foundation provided each student with a $100 Target gift card and a Washington Redskins player as a shopping buddy to lead them in a one-hour shopping spree throughout the store...careful not to miss the toy and electronics aisles.
The players were assisted by the Target helpers who efficiently tallied the cost of gifts as they were selected. Checkout counters were a colorful explosion of giant Redskins players, small excited children, watchful principals and teachers, patient staffers and shopping carts spilling over with dolls, toys, sports equipment, video games and new outfits.
When Redskins defensive end Kedrick Goldston was asked why he had supported the event every year (even on crutches this year), he said “This is a never-miss event. I wouldn’t miss this event, for any reason.”
“I will never forget this day,” said one of the young shoppers, sporting a huge grin. “I got to come to Target to see the Redskins, buy gifts and shop with you,” she said to one of the Redskins’ wives, who served as the third-graders’ personal stylist as she shopped for a new holiday dress.
Giant red Target shopping bags clutched tightly by very happy children made their way back onto the school bus after an unforgettable day.
