Purcellville Man Discharges Firearm During Altercation at Round Hill Home
A Purcellville man has been charged after discharging a firearm at his residence during an altercation with two acquaintances.
Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 15800 block of Short Hill Road around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 after receiving a report of gunfire and an assault. A male and female victim reported they were inside the residence with the homeowner and another female when an altercation ensued. The suspect, Steven D. Underwood, 51, is accused of brandishing a firearm and discharging several rounds during the course of the altercation. The suspect also assaulted one of the females.
Members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team and the Hostage Negotiations Unit responded to the scene. Personnel from the Virginia State Police and the Fairfax County Police assisted at the scene.
Underwood was taken into custody without incident around 11:40 p.m. and was charged with simple assault, reckless handling of a firearm, brandishing a firearm, purchase of a firearm by a subject under a protective order, and discharge of a firearm in an occupied dwelling. He remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.
