Police in Leesburg Make Quick Arrest in Attempted Bank Robbery

A suspect in the attempted bank robbery has been identified and taken into custody. Peggy Virginia Membreno, age 49 of no fixed address in Loudoun County, was taken into custody on the scene after she passed a note to a bank employee that implied her intentions to rob the bank.  This afternoon, Leesburg Police detectives charged Membreno in the attempted robbery of the Middleburg Bank located at 102 Catoctin Circle, SE in Leesburg.  Membreno was charged with one count of attempted robbery.  She was held with no bond by the Magistrate and is currently detained in the Loudoun County Detention Center.
Leesburg Police detectives are aware that Membreno was arrested in August of 2005 for a similar crime. She was charged with robbing a bank in Loudoun County and after conviction, served time in a federal penitentiary.
This case is still under investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.
