New Disc Golf Course at Winchester Park
Avid disc golf players in the community will soon have a new course to try right here in Jim Barnett Park.
The owners of Incredible Flying Objects on the Loudoun Street Mall recently started a petition for disc golf players wanting to see a new course built in Winchester. They had over 400 people sign the petition! The group has organized their efforts and started fundraising to build the course. “It’s not possible for us to consider building this type of amenity in the park right now given our budget constraints,” said Michael White WPRD Operations Superintendent. “So, its up to the community to help make it a reality and these folks are very excited about it.”

Great news for all disc golfers in the Winchester VA area as well as those traveling through Winchester. I used to go to Winchester from time to time while attending school in Romney, WV. Now I’ll have another reason to stop by & check out this new course at Jim Barnett Park next time I’m in the area.
Having 400 people alone signing that petition just says a lot about the community, unlike some other towns that I’ve read about in the past NOT wanting a disc golf course built in their parks or their backyards. When it’s done right, designed right and maintained…it’s a great thing to have compared to the alternatives (i.e. under-used park that attracts vandalism, criminal activities, ATV’s tearing up the park to name a few.)
