Middleburg Elementary Celebrates Their Centennial

Middleburg Elementary will celebrate its 100thbirthday on Saturday, September 24th.

Among the highlights of the celebration will be alumni and students sharing memories from Middleburg Elementary’s history and a tour of the “Middleburg Elementary Museum.” There will be a student musical, “This is Your Life, Middleburg Elementary,” and a “Through the Decades” fashion show.

Other activities will include an “Ole Tyme” photo booth, a Middleburg Elementary School video documentary, a scavenger hunt, games from the past and the dedication of a memorial cornerstone. (Everyone in attendance will have a chance to recall their personal stories in the “Recollections” videotaping booth.)

Lunch and refreshments also will reflect the past with favorite foods from the last century on the menu. Cookbooks will be for sale reflecting the 100-year history of the school. Door prizes, antique cars, face-painting and hair wraps will give everyonefun things to do.

The celebration will close with the Middleburg Elementary students dedicating the Middleburg Elementary Time Capsule. Each class has chosen their own special memories, items, and information from the year 2011. The time capsule will be opened in 25 years.

The schedule for the event is as follows:

· 10 a.m.:Cornerstone ceremony

· 11 a.m.: Musical “This is Your Life, Middleburg” featuring Middleburg Elementary students and the Middleburg Players

· 11:30 a.m.: Lunch (The menu includes fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, taco salad, fruit, cookie and a drink and will be served in a commemorative lunch pail.)

· Noon-5 p.m.: activities for children

· 2 p.m.: video documentary

· 3 p.m.: Alumni Reception

· 4 p.m.: Fashion Show – Through the Decades

· 4:30: Time Capsule

· 5:30: Dinner (The menu includes pulled pork barbecue, green beans, potato salad, Cole slaw, drinks and dessert.)

· DJ Music from 2 to 7 p.m.
