Maryland Man Charged in New Year’s Day Robbery of Denny’s Restarant in City of Fairfax
City of Fairfax Police have identified and charged a 46 year old Maryland man in connection with the robbery of a City restaurant on New Year’s Day. About 6:30 AM on January 1 a man entered the Denny’s Restaurant at 10473 Fairfax Boulevard, initially claimed to be a law enforcement officer, then produced a handgun and ordered the manager, a 25 year old Fairfax County man, into the office where he demanded money from the safe. After the manager complied, the suspect fled through the back door of the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of cash and escaped from the area. No one was injured.
As the result of investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division four charges were placed against Colin Thomas Bowie of 8801 Jones Mill Road, Chevy Chase, Maryland. He has been charged with robbery (Section 18.2-58 of the Code of Virginia), abduction (Section 18.2-47), use of a firearm in commission of a felony (Section 18.2-53.1) and impersonating a police officer (Section 18.2-174). Bowie was arrested on February 17 by Takoma Park Police and charged as a fugitive from justice from Virginia, and is being held in Montgomery County, Maryland.
