Man Killed in Fiery Crash on Fairfax County Parkway Near Franklin Farms Road

Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 12:56 p.m., police responded to a crash on the Fairfax County Parkway near Franklin Farms Road.

A 56-year-old Ashburn-area man was driving southbound on Fairfax County Parkway and for unknown reasons, left the roadway just past Franklin Farms Road and struck the sound barrier. After passers-by had pulled the driver from the vehicle, the vehicle caught on fire. The driver was medevaced to a nearby hospital where he died.

Investigation by Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives is still underway and more details of the crash will be forthcoming tomorrow. However, speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.
