Lovettsville Man Attempting to Elude Police Killed In Accident

A Lovettsville man died at the scene of an accident that occurred when his vehicle struck an embankment on Rt. 287 and overturned following a brief pursuit by Brunswick Police. On Monday, April 4, 2011, shortly after 9 PM, Randy L. Sutler, 32, of N. Berlin Pike, Lovettsville, was being questioned by Brunswick, MD Police who were looking into suspected vehicle tamperings in that city. When he suddenly took off in his vehicle, a Brunswick Police Officer pursued him across the bridge into Virginia. According to the officer, the pursuit was discontinued and the emergency equipment was turned off as the officer continued south on Rt. 287. Rounding a corner, the officer came across Sutler’s vehicle. Sutler apparently lost control of his vehicle, a 1992 Jeep Wrangler, which crossed the northbound lane and hit an embankment just south of Eagle Rock Lane. The Jeep overturned and Sutler was ejected from it. He appears to have died on impact. He had no passengers and no other vehicles were involved. Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Units responded to investigate the incident. Sutler’s next-of-kin were notified by the Sheriff’s Office.
