Joseph Wilson to Lead Mental Health in Loudoun
Joseph Wilson has been selected to serve as the new Director of the Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse & Developmental Services, County Administrator Tim Hemstreet announced today.
Wilson has more than 25 years of experience in the mental health, substance abuse and developmental services field. He comes to Loudoun from Maryland, where he most recently was Director of Operations for Maryland Choices, LLC, a private care-management company. Wilson received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from American University and earned a master’s degree in social work from The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C.
The Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse & Developmental Services provides services to mentally disabled Loudoun County residents, including mental health/substance abuse outpatient, emergency services, mental retardation case management, job coaching, early intervention services, residential services and outreach. The Loudoun County Community Services Board oversees the department’s programs and services, sets departmental policy and procedures, and determines priorities as mandated by the state of Virginia.
Wilson, who will begin his new job on November 28, 2011, succeeds Tom Maynard, who is retiring after seven years of service to the county. During his tenure, Maynard led or participated in efforts to reduce costs and improve client services at the local, regional and statewide levels.
