Layoffs at Berryville Graphics confirmed

The Berryville Graphics printing plant has abruptly dismissed about 60 employees, according to two of the former workers.

They said the employees were told that their jobs had been terminated because of the troubled economy’s impact on the plant’s production.

Jennifer Wood said she was one of about 20 employees fired from the bindery department’s third shift Jan. 30.

Co-workers in the plant have told her that about 60 people, mostly from the bindery department, were called to the company’s human resources office one by one — in much the same way she was — and told they were being terminated immediately, she said.

“They told us the reason they were laying us off was because of downsizing due to economic conditions,” said Wood, who worked for Berryville Graphics for six years.
