Accident in Lansdowne Spawns Search and Rescue Operation
An early morning accident on Nov. 6 in Lansdowne spawned an intensive search and rescue operation after the driver of a vehicle that plunged into a pond could not be located.
Loudoun County Deputies responded to the scene of the accident at approximately 1:45 AM, where a SUV that drove through the T-intersection at Lansdowne Blvd. and Riverpoint Dr. went into a pond. The vehicle was approximately ¾ submerged. The driver had exited the vehicle and left the scene and was not initially able to be located. Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the scene and searched the vehicle and pond confirming no one else was involved.
A LCSO K9 Unit, and Search and Rescue Unit were requested to assist in locating the missing driver.
Additionally, Fairfax County Police Department helicopter responded to assist with the search.
A Reverse 911 was initiated but not activated as the driver, an 18-year-old female from Ashburn, was located unharmed. She was taken to a local hospital for checkout.
Charges are pending.
