Improper Disposal of Fireworks Destroys Home in Centreville

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Thursday, July 1, 2010, at approximately 11 p.m., in the Centreville area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 5205 Ellicott Court.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire in the front of the three-story home and fire through the roof upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes. The fire originated on the front porch of the home. The occupants escaped unharmed. Six people have been displaced, four adults and two children. Red Cross was not needed. There were no injuries.

The home is a total loss.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Improper disposal of recently used fireworks caused the fire.
