Fugitive Teacher Captured by Police North of Richmond

Cala, MiguelThe felonious flight of a former St. Andrew’s Catholic School teacher charged with molesting a young student ended Friday on the side of a Virginia highway as he talked to a Broward Sheriff’s Office detective on the phone.

BSO Special Victims Unit Det. Sylviane Wernath had convinced Miguel Leonardo Cala, 37, to turn himself in to face charges of lewd or lascivious molestation of a child under 12 and lewd and lascivious conduct. She notified Virginia State Police of Cala’s whereabouts, and within a few minutes, Cala told Wernath that a state trooper had pulled up behind him.
