Foxcroft Leads Nanette’s Walk Once Again
MIDDLEBURG, VA –For the fifth year in a row – each year that the event has been in existence – Foxcroft School had the largest contingent Sunday (Oct. 9) at Nanette’s Walk to support the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation.
Thanks to the leadership of junior Mary Motion, who lost her mother to cancer when she was 8, and Foxcroft’s Assistant Head of School Sheila McKibbin, more than 60 students, faculty, and administrators showed their support for the fight against the disease by walking. They raised $3,750 — more than 10 percent of the total raised at the walk. Foxcroft has a goal of $5,000 this year and expects to meet that with the proceeds from January’s “Think Pink†basketball tournament and continued sale of pink shoelaces and pink hair/horse braids is expected to raise the rest.
All told, Nanette’sWalk raised $37,000 with about 300 participants, volunteers and sponsors. Separate concurrent events were held in Warrenton and Leesburg, boosting the total raised by the “Cherry Blossom Walks and Runs for Breast Cancer” to $80,000 with more than 800 participants and supporters
The Walk is named in honor of Nanette Hewitt White, a Middleburg civic leader who lost a ten-year battle against breast cancer. The proceeds benefit the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation, which plans to grant 90% of the Walks/Runs money to Fauquier and Loudoun charities for breast cancer detection, treatment, and education, and 10% to regional research, including the Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center
