Loudoun County, VA: A Leesburg, Virginia woman lost her life May 11, 2010 in a two vehicle crash on Route 7 in Western Loudoun.

At approximately 9:12 p.m. Loudoun Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of the Hill High County Store just west of Round Hill, VA for an automobile crash. A deputy on patrol in the area was the first to arrive on scene and observed a vehicle in a pond. Three deputies entered the water and removed the driver from the partially submerged car and immediately placed in the care of fire/rescue personnel.

According to witness accounts the driver, Arlene Mae Tines, 45, was operating a 1998 Ford Taurus when she attempted to enter and cross Route 7 from the parking lot without yielding. Her vehicle was struck by a westbound 2004 Mazda Tribute, driven by Brooke F. Herndon, 41, of Winchester, VA. After the initial impact, the Ford continued, and partially ejected an unbelted front-seat passenger, Mahdi Rashinabdur-Rahim Ibn Frye, 44, of Purcellville, VA. The Ford continued into a nearby pond.

Tines was transported to the INOVA Loudoun Hospital-Cornwall Campus where she later passed away at the hospital. Herndon, who was restrained by a seatbelt and airbag systems, was transported to the same hospital, treated and released. Frye was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and declined treatment at the scene.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
