Falls Church House Fire Tuesday, January 20, 2010

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Tuesday, January 20, 2010, at approximately 1:15 a.m. in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located at 2769 Winchester Way.

Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the second floor of the home upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes. A smoke alarm activated inside the home, providing early warning to the occupants. All occupants escaped safely from the home prior to the arrival of firefighters. Five adults and two children have been displaced. Red Cross was not needed. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The fire was caused by an extension cord.
