Developer, philanthropist Robert H. Smith dies

Washington developer Robert H. Smith, the longtime head of the company named for his father, Charles E. Smith, and a major figure behind the development of Crystal City and the University of Maryland business school, died Tuesday in Winchester, Va.

Smith, who was 81, died less than a day after suffering a massive stroke, according to sources.
