Crews Perform Winter Tree Work in Downtown Winchester

The City of Winchester’s Public Works Department will be performing tree pruning on trees in the downtown area from Kent to Stewart and Piccadilly to Gerrard over the next 30 days beginning February 21, 2012 and ending the week of March 19, 2012 barring any weather or other complications. The focus of this work is to remove low-hanging branches which are potential safety hazards & impede pedestrian and vehicular traffic (including school buses) as well as enhancing tree form on younger trees. It is better & healthier for the trees to be proactive & trim now in accordance with ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) guidelines than to wait until the branches are broken off which could cause injury, damage to vehicles & seriously damage the trees in the long run.
This operation will not involve lane or sidewalk closures and will not restrict parking. All work will be done by hand from the ground.
This work is vital to the continued success and health of Winchester’s trees. It will also improve the safety of pedestrians and vehicles traveling throughout the downtown area.
