Commercial Building Fire On Old Keene Mill Road
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a commercial building fire at approximately 7:45 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2010, in the Springfield area of Fairfax County. The structure, a vacant restaurant, is located at 7010 Old Keene Mill Road.
Firefighters encountered smoke showing from all sides and fire showing from the roof of the one-story building upon arrival. Firefighters also encountered a partial roof collapse rendering the building unstable. The fire was brought under control in approximately 60 minutes. Firefighters contended with extreme temperatures and deep snow piled next to the structure while fighting the fire. The Incident Commander struck a second alarm, bringing over 60 firefighters to the scene. There were no reported injuries.
Damage is estimated at $200,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
