Maker of Botox Agrees to Pay $600 Million to Resolve Allegations of Off-Label Promotions

American pharmaceutical manufacturer Allergan Inc. has agreed to plead guilty and pay $600 million to resolve its criminal and civil liability arising from the company’s unlawful promotion of its biological product, Botox® Therapeutic, for uses not approved as safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Justice Department announced today. The resolution includes a criminal fine and forfeiture totaling $375 million and a civil settlement with the federal government and the states of $225 million.

Today NOAA reopened 4,281 square miles of Gulf waters off western Louisiana to commercial and recreational fishing. The reopening was announced after consultation with FDA and under a re-opening protocol agreed to by NOAA, the FDA, and the Gulf states.

Child abuse declined nationally in 2008 compared to 2007, according to a new report by the Crimes against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire. Sexual abuse declined 6 percent, physical abuse 3 percent and neglect 2 percent.The report also found that child maltreatment fatalities stayed stable from 2007 to 2008. Fairfax County police officers from around the county conducted a sobriety checkpoint to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers on Friday, August 20 from 11:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. Saturday. All motorists were stopped and drivers were checked to assure that their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.
Approximately 982 motorists passed through the checkpoint on Route 7 and Lewinsville Road. One arrest was made for DWI.

On Friday August 13th 2010 Martinsburg Police arrested an individual on the felony charge of Threats of terrorist acts at 106 South Raleigh Street Martinsburg WV at approximately 1:00 PM.

Police Arrest Suspect in Connection with Serial Stabbing Case

Law enforcement authorities have a man in custody in connection with the serial stabbing cases that have terrorized residents across three states. Based on information provided by a tip from the public regarding the hunt for the serial killer, authorities were able to locate an individual of interest in the case. Authorities obtained search warrants and were able to track the suspect electronically through several states, resulting in an arrest Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia.
