				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Beauty industry is often known for vanity â€“ or beauty at any cost â€“ including at the expense of the environment.   But this week, in celebration of America Recycles Week, the nonprofit organization BeautyRecycled is rolling out a new recycling program in selected beauty salons to collect and recycle beauty product containers. And through a new partnership with Aerosolv, the group will even be able to safely recycle aerosol cans collected from beauty salons as part of this new effort.</p>
<p>BeautyRecycled launched this past year to spread the spirit of sustainability throughout the beauty world through ambitious industry-wide initiatives promoting environmental consciousness, landfill avoidance and green growth opportunities.</p>
<p>Aerosolv has partnered with BeautyRecycled, bringing their aerosol can recycling technology to beauty salons as part of a new initiative, Aerosolv Nation, which enlists community members, businesses and sustainability advocates to pledge to promote proper aerosol can recycling.</p>

The program showcases letters written by women, containing messages of hope, support and inspiration, in store windows at ULTAâ€™s 369 locations nationwide.  The campaign is designed to create a visual testament to the power of women helping women in the battle against breast cancer.ULTA, the largest beauty retailer in the United States to provide one-stop shopping for prestige, mass and salon products and services, launched the Windows of Loveâ„¢ campaign in 2009.  Stores across the country papered their windows with letters of encouragement that ranged from inspiring stories of brave survivors to words of advice from supportive loved ones.  Based on the positive response, the Windows of Loveâ„¢ campaign has been expanded to continue the momentum generated in the first year of the campaign.</p>

The Maryland grad student finished the 150-yard sprint in a remarkable 19.12 seconds, setting a new course record and winning the grand prize of an All-New 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, plus a special surprise $10,000 check.</p>
<p>Rebecca Sorenson of Ft. Collins, Colorado, walked away with $5,000 as the 2nd place finisher, and 3rd place runner Anna Carr of Destin, FL was awarded $2,500. In the men&#8217;s race, 2008 High Heel-a-thon winner Shane Neil of Brooklyn, NY returned and successfully defended his title, winning $1,000 in prize money. In addition, this year&#8217;s High Heel-a-thon was powered by Zappos.com, and the online fashion retailer teamed up with â€œProject Runway&#8217;sâ€ Tim Gunn (roving correspondent for the event) to present the â€œBest Dressedâ€ award. Cat Berkowitz of Waxhaw, NC, was rewarded for her stylish ensemble with a snazzy trophy and a $1,000 Zappos.com gift certificate. And in keeping with the overall footwear theme, all finishers were able to take home a pair of Seychelles shoes from the Zappos.com booth.</p>
<p>Other notable participants were LIVE&#8217;s own Kelly Ripa, who finished with a time of 29.77 seconds, wearing a pair of 3-inch LaDuca heels; Broadway, film and TV star Kristin Chenoweth, completing the course in 48.77 seconds; and â€œ90210â€³ beauty AnnaLynne McCord, with a time of 36.92 seconds.</p>

<p>The 2007 National Health Interview Survey found that about 38 percent of adults use some form of CAM for health and wellness or to treat diseases and conditions, and spent $33.9 billion out of pocket on visits to CAM practitioners and purchases of CAM products, classes and materials.</p>

Erratic consumer spending trends in various personal appearance categories are due to fundamental changes in consumer behaviour which predate the economic downturn. This development was first noted by Diagonal Reports back in 2006 but, since then, the rate of change has sharply accelerated. Double digit growth in some face and skincare categories contrasts with stagnant performance in others. This pattern is seen across beauty salons and clinics, day and medspas from China to the US and Europe.</p>
