Midlothian Convenience Store Owner Sentenced for Tax Fraud

Mohammad Asif Ali, age 47, of Midlothian, Virginia, was sentenced to 12 months in prison today for failing to report $400,829 of income and $107, 489 of tax on his personal tax returns from 2003 to 2007.

Trinity Packaging to Expanded Rocky Mount Plant

RICHMOND- Governor Bob McDonnell today announced that Trinity Packaging Corporation will make a multi-million dollar investment to expand capacity at its operation in the town of Rocky Mount in Franklin County. The project will create 25 new jobs and save 75 jobs. Virginia successfully competed against North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin for the project.

Dupont Invests $20 Million in Ion Battery Facility In Chesterfield

Bob McDonnell today announced that DuPont will invest $20 million to establish a facility in Chesterfield County to make the first nanofiber-based polymeric separators for high-performance lithium ion batteries for electric vehicles and many other potential commercial uses.
The facility, an early commercial-scale plant to produce the new material for this growing market, will be located at a leased building in Chesterfield County and will begin operations in early 2011. Congressman Hosts Job Fair in Chesterfield County

Congressman J. Randy Forbes will host a job fair at L.C. Bird High School, Wednesday, Aug. 11, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. More than 36 area employers will be on-site to discuss job availabilities. Attendees also will have the opportunity to meet with experts on resume writing, interviewing, job searches, and apprenticeships. Those attending should bring multiple copies of their resume and letters of reference to distribute.

RICHMOND, Va. – Denise C. McCreary, 43, of Chesterfield, Va., was convicted today by a federal jury for submitting false and fraudulent claims for reimbursement to the Virginia Medicaid program. Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Kenneth T. Cuccinelli, Attorney General of Virginia; and Michael F.A. Morehart, Special Agent- in-Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Field Office, made the announcement after the verdict was returned.

Police are investigating a double shooting that killed a woman and seriously injured an 18-year-old male. The shooting occurred at Pietros Restaurant at 2601 Osbourne Road at about 8:15 p.m. on June 23. This is a domestic-related incident.
Richard E. Parker 56, of the 100 block of Scrimshaw Drive, is accused of shooting his wife and a restaurant patron. Both victims were taken to VCU Medical Center. Cindy M. Ceremonial Signing of Bill to Facilitate Expansion of Charter School

Nine days before Virginia’s new laws take effect, Governor Bob McDonnell today ceremonially signed legislation that will facilitate the expansion of high-quality charter schools in the Commonwealth. Police Arrest One Suspect, Seek Another Re: Fatal Shooting

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Police continue their investigation into the April 21 shooting that killed one man and injured a 17-year-old male in the 6800 block of Amster Road in the Cloverleaf Lake apartments.
Police have arrested and charged Garry Harrison Jr., 21, of the 2000 block of Dawson Road in Richmond, with murder, robbery and distribution of marijuana.

Police are investigating an accident that killed a man at his property in the 19800 block of Russwood Road at about 1:45 p.m. today. Police said the man was attempting to move hay with a tractor when a wheel lodged in the hay and the tractor subsequently turned over and pinned the man. The man died at the scene. His name has not yet been released.
