Board Declares November 15, 2011, as America Recycles Day in Loudoun County
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed Tuesday, November 15, 2011, as America Recycles Day in Loudoun County and encourages Loudoun residents and businesses to pledge to recycle more at home and at work.
Loudoun County continues to improve its recycling rate each year. In 2010, the county increased its recycling rate by 1.5%, recycling over 94,000 tons of material. Over 73% of the materials were bottles, glass, paper, plastic, and cans collected through residential and business recycling programs.
To improve recycling in your home or workplace, ask these questions:
- Should I throw this in the trash? Next time you use a bottle, can, or piece of paper, remember to throw it in a recycling container and not in the trash.
- What other items can I put in my recycling container? Contact your collector, HOA, or town government to find out what you can put in your recycling container.
- What happens if I don’t have a recycling container or curbside collection? Residents should contact the Town or HOA they live in to get a recycling container. If you do not have curbside service or a recycling dumpster, consider recycling your materials at one of the eleven drop-off centers located in the county or contact a permitted collector to pick up your material.
- Where do I recycle other materials such as batteries, textbooks, oil, antifreeze, electronics, or clothing? Learn more about recycling these items and others at www.loudoun.gov/recycle.
