VDOT Urges Motorists To Be Cautious As Conditions Improve

7 February 2010 89 views No Comment

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) continues to work around the clock to clear roadways across the commonwealth.

While conditions are improving on interstates and primary roads, motorists are urged to use extreme caution as travel remains hazardous in many areas. State officials are responding to more traffic incidents as drivers venture out today.

Motorists are urged to avoid travel. As temperatures begin to drop again this evening, drivers may find icy conditions and slick spots. If you must drive, be especially careful on bridges and overpasses, as ice may form more quickly in these areas.

Before you travel, call 511 or visit www.511virginia.org to get the latest traveler information.

VDOT crews first focus efforts on the roads that carry the most traffic, but will then treat secondary roads and subdivision streets.

Along with snow totals close to two feet in some areas, downed trees, power outages, and flooding are causing additional challenges. The following tips and resources can help motorists stay safe.
