Frederick County Public Schools has launched the FCPS Media Network as a means to better communicate with students, staff, area residents and the world.  Anyone with an internet connection can gain access to the network by going to www.fcpsmedianetwork.org or using the link on the Frederick County Public Schools home page www.frederick.k12.va.us.

Frederick County Public Schools Supervisor of Media and Technology Glenn Moreland says, “The mission of the FCPS Media Network is to function as a resource of diverse, high-quality programming content which enriches, informs and inspires the greater community of Frederick County, Virginia.”  The FCPS Media Network will provide access to a variety of programming
developed by the FCPS Media and Technology Department.  Superintendent of Schools Patricia Taylor says, “The FCPS Media Network will benefit the school division and the community in a number of ways.  It will allow for efficient online delivery of professional development and instructional
content to staff and students and also will offer more community access to programs about our schools.”

In addition to providing password protected access to professional development and instructional programming, the FCPS Media Network will allow for wider distribution of the programs currently broadcast on FCPS Comcast Cable Channel 18.  Taylor says, “We use Channel 18 as a
means to highlight student achievements, share important information with the community and offer insight into the operations of Frederick County Public Schools.  In the past, access to those programs has only been available to individuals who subscribe to Comcast Cable.  By making those programs
available online through the FCPS Media Network, we will be able to reach many more students, parents and members of the community.  Through the FCPS Media Network, anyone with an internet connection will be able to view FCPS programming online at any time it’s convenient for them to do
so.”
Coordinator of Policy, Records Management, and Communications Steve Edwards says, “The FCPS Media Network will be a valuable communication tool for the school division.  It provides another means for individuals to get unfiltered information about the school division directly from the
source.  I expect it to become just as popular as our school division and individual school websites.”

Taylor says, “Over time, our goal is to get more students involved in the programming shown on Channel 18 and through the FCPS Media Network.  Some students are now involved, and we plan to provide more opportunities for students to put the skills they learn in the classroom into practice by helping produce programming for Channel 18 and the FCPS Media Network.”
