Weather vane’s fate unknown after bids top out at $2.1 million

Winchester Star – Six bids were made Saturday on “Old Jake Barnhart,” but none was high enough to buy the weather vane. The highest bid of $2.1 million at New York auction house Sotheby’s failed to meet the minimum purchase price on “Old Jake.” The exact purchase minimum for the 6-foot-tall copper weather vane that stood atop the Rouss Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company for at least 137 years has not been made public, but Sotheby’s had estimated “Old Jake” would sell for $3 million to $5 million.
